Recruitment of Board Members for LGBT Ireland
Recruitment of Board Members for LGBT Ireland
LGBT Ireland is a national support service for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender people and their families and friends.
The service was established in 2010 by seven local LGBT helplines, who share a vision to create an infrastructure to enable them to offer support and information nationally through their network of trained volunteers. Today LGBT Ireland offers a comprehensive range of services which provide support and information on issues relating to sexuality and gender identity, they include:
- Non-judgmental, confidential listening and support, is provided seven days a week through the telephone helpline 1890 929 539 and through our online instant messaging service. This dedicated website provides a gateway to information and support throughout the country.
- The peer support service, established in 2014, offers opportunities for people to come together on a monthly basis, to provide emotional and practical support to each other around a common experience or situation.
- LGBT Ireland also delivers LGBT awareness training to other services and community groups, to enhance the support received by LGBT people accessing these services and groups.
- LGBT Ireland works with partner organisations to expand the support available to LGBT people and their family members, including with Samaritans Ireland through their Direct Dial and Connect programmes.
- In partnership with TENI, LGBT Ireland manages the Gender Identity Family Support Line, providing confidential listening support to family members of Trans people.

Management and Continuity Planning
Board members are appointed on a voluntary basis and the term will be for a minimum of a two-year period.
As an equality organisation, LGBT Ireland embraces diversity and understands it as both the driving force of our success (how we work) and as a key component of our vision. We approach diversity holistically within the organisation and work to see it encapsulated into our decision-making structures, our partnerships, activities and our messaging.
While the organisation works with a diverse range of communities and individuals with different lived experience, we are conscious that the make-up of our Board, as the strategic decision maker, should represent our value of diversity. We actively seek a diverse applicant pool for these positions and encourage candidates of all backgrounds and from all over Ireland to apply.
